Hero’s welcome accorded to Judoka Linthoi in Manipur

Upon her arrival, the 16-year-old was accorded a hero's welcome by her family and fans at the Imphal International Airport.

Manipur’s pride and India’s first-ever gold medalist at the Cadet World Championships, Judoka Linthoi Chanambam arrived home today in Imphal.

Upon her arrival, the 16-year-old was accorded a hero’s welcome by her family and fans at the Imphal International Airport.

Traditional music groups played drums and ‘Pena’ as she was escorted from the airport while hundreds looked on and congratulate her and adorn her with garlands.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Linthoi said that she will be staying in Imphal for just two weeks during which she will meet friends and relatives. An elated Linthoi said she is grateful to the people for the rousing welcome.

She also added after she stays in Imphal, she will be consulting with her coach for further training and upcoming championships.

Meanwhile, the head coach for Judo of Mayai Lambi Sports Academy, A. Surjit Meitei, who had trained Linthoi, stated that he had always seen something in her. He strongly believes that Linthoi will stand on the Olympic podium one day.
