Manipur: First passenger train engine arrives at Khongshang Railway Station

The Northeast Frontier Railways train head engine without the passenger bogies was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Engineer of Jiribam and top officials of NFR.
In another significant milestone for Manipur’s rail connectivity, the first ever train to reach Khongshang Railway Station in Noney district became a reality today.
The Engine Rolling speed trial run by OMS of the section was successfully carried out between Vangaichungpao station in Tamenglong District to Khongshang Station in Noney District of Jiribam – Imphal New Broad Gauge Railway Line Project.
Later, the train engine returned to Silchar from Khongshang Railway Station in the evening.
The time taken during the onward journey was 32 minutes and it took 29 minutes during the return journey. The maximum speed attained in both directions was 115 kmph covering a total distance of 44 km from Vangaichungpao to Khongsang consisting of 20 nos of tunnels and 5 nos of major bridges and 4 nos of stations.

It may be mentioned that the speed trial was done for further improvement of the track running, in connection with the CRS inspection for commissioning the section from Vangaichungpao to Khongsang which is likely to be commissioned in the month of September.
