Meghalaya CM lauds West Garo Hills police for crackdown on illegal activities

CM Sangma lauded the West Garo hills police and administration for cracking down on extortion and other illegal activities.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today firmly stated that the Government will not allow any extortion or illegal activities in Tura which lead to an increase in the price of essential commodities.

Conrad said that multiple feedbacks were received from the general public in the last few months and reports of hiking prices of snacks, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat in Tura town were on the rise.

Sangma assured that these reports were taken up seriously and based on the directions from Police Headquarters, a confidential inquiry was also conducted.

Conrad also said that the government has taken steps to support and ensure that full protection in the future against illegal activities and extortion in Tura as well as in the state.

Sangma further added that this will have a huge impact on ensuring the reduction of essential commodities to a large extent.

It has also come to light that BJP vice- president Bernard N Marak, who is currently in police custody against whom there are allegations of running a prostitution racket from his farmhouse has now been accused of running an extortion racket in Tura, headquarters of the West Garo Hills district.
