Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement leader, Thomas Passah, informed that there was confusion that led to the incident.

Hynniewtrep Youth Council leader Donboklang Kharlyngdoh was summoned to the Mawlai Police Station in Meghalaya on Thursday after the youth council urged residents of Mawlai to hoist black flags in front of their homes.

As the move conflicted with the Har Garh Tiranga, the youth leader was summoned to the police station. After meeting the officer in charge of Mawlai police station, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement leader, Thomas Passah, informed that there was confusion that led to the incident.

Passah said the group has made its position clear on the agitation which is specific to the death of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.

Passah also said the group has nothing against the celebration of the 75th year of India’s independence.

It may be mentioned that starting from August 13, Ka Sur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep had urged residents of Mawlai to hoist black flags in front of their homes and on vehicles as a mark of protest against the failure of the government to book the culprits involved in the alleged killing of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
