The Opposition Sikkim Democratic Front took a dig at the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s Jan Unmukti Diwas calling the event disastrous for democracy.

Former Lok Sabha MP PD Rai took a dig at Chief Minister PS Tamang on the occasion the CM completed his 1-year jail term for corruption. PD Rai also added that the whole misinterpretation of 10 August into a liberation day is disastrous for democracy.

PD Rai also cautioned SDF workers looking to join SKM as they will be not be given the first preference.

Earlier the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha also lashed out at the opposition stating that it has no right to meddle in SKM’s internal affairs.

It may be mentioned here that the opposition in Sikkim has been openly critical of the ruling SKM celebrating Jan Unmukti Diwas on August 10, the day SKM President PS Tamang was released after serving a one-year jail term for alleged misappropriation of government schemes in 1997.

The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is aiming to strike the heart of the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front by taking control of South Sikkim also known as a stronghold of the SDF.

In a mega show of power, Party President and Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang were escorted by a 3000-strong biker group today.

While the party is celebrating its fifth Jan Unmukti Diwas as a mark of liberation from the previous government’s oppression and suppression, the party also received as many as 9 SDF leaders including former Ministers, MLAs, and party leaders.

Speaking to the media Transport Minister Sanjeet Kharel said SKM will rule Sikkim for another 35 years and there is no way will the opposition SDF challenge them as most of the prominent SDF leaders are already in line to join the ruling SKM party.

As many as 9 former Ministers and MLAs of the previous SDF government joined the SKM today.
