The DRMC leaders have given an ultimatum till August 15 for the govt to respond, failing which, they threatened to launch the indefinite road blockade.

Leaders of the Deprived Returnees Movement Committee (DRMC), a body consisting of surrendered militants, have threatened to indefinitely block the Assam-Agartala National Highway 8 from August 19 if their charter of demands is not met.

The DRMC also stated that it will take the support of other similar organizations.

Speaking to reporters in Agartala last evening, DRMC general secretary Amrit Reang said the body had placed a nine-point charter of demands before the state government earlier, following which tribal welfare minister Rampada Jamatia held two consequent meetings with the surrendered insurgent leaders in June and July this year.

However, the leaders claim that nothing much has been done on the field to actually implement the demands of the DRMC, which include compensation for the surrendered insurgents, rubber plantations for rehabilitation, housing under PMAY, benefits under various schemes of agriculture, horticulture, and animal resource development, education for their children and withdrawal of pending cases against them.

The DRMC leaders have given an ultimatum till August 15 for the government to respond, failing which, they threatened to launch the indefinite road blockade from 8 AM on August 19.
