Nagaland: Good Samaritan Award initiated in Kohima

First Published: 9th August, 2022 17:27 IST

The volunteers not only administered first aid to the victims but also rushed them to the nearby hospitals for medical attention thereby saving many precious lives.

There is a hero inside all of us. Anyone with the desire and intent to rise up to the occasion and perform selfless acts of kindness can be a hero.

And it is with this very belief that the SP Kohima Good Samaritan Award was instituted today with an aim to recognize and honor selfless acts of kindness by any individual, group, or organization who goes beyond their call of duty to assist others in times of need.

The first Good Samaritan Award under D.E.F Kohima was presented to Tsiese Basa youth organization for stepping out of their comfort zone and for extending their helping hand to the 27 victims of the ill-fated Dimapur bound Tuensang night-super bus which met with an accident on June 5, 2022, at Tsiesema village near Dzüdza bridge.

The volunteers not only administered first aid to the victims but also rushed them to the nearby hospitals for medical attention thereby saving many precious lives.

The Good Samaritan Award was also presented to UBC Isilong Hau of North Police Station, who on September 26, 2021, had rushed a minor, who was knocked down by a car to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

He was off duty that day but his prompt action not only saved a minor’s life but also inspired many others to live up to the saying that a ‘police officer is never off duty.’

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the Good Samaritan award, a Road Safety Cell was also launched by Senior Superintendent of Police Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, which became operational today.
