Demanding immediate release of eighteen months pending salaries, as many as 99 employees of the Haflong Municipal Board in Assam’s Dima Hasao have launched an indefinite strike to press for their demand.
Reportedly, several government departments are yet to pay taxes to the Haflong Municipal board for months now, amounting to the tune of a few crores.
The Haflong Municipal Board or HMB has been maintaining expenditures like salaries of employees among others with earnings like taxes from various government departments and as such there is no other source of revenue earnings for the HMB.
Meanwhile, speaking to our Northeastlive, Swadeep Hasamsa, the employees stated that under the prevailing circumstances they were left with no other choice but to go for an indefinite strike and if their salaries are not released soon, they will surely have to starve in the near future.
