Assam Police will resist encroachment of its territories: DGP Mahanta

DGP Mahanta visited the Kulichhera border outpost along with Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur and DIG (South Range) Kangkan Jyoti Saikia. The visit comes at the conclusion of DGP Mahanta’s three-day long tour today of the Barak Valley districts.
Speaking on the matter, DGP Mahanta said that while talks are going on to reach an amicable solution to the border dispute, the Assam Police would be keeping a close watch along the inter-state border with Mizoram as the border issue is going to be a major topic during the upcoming elections in the state.
He also asserted that Assam Police will not allow any sort of expansion into Assam’s territory from any side. He further said that the police departments from both states are trying to cultivate good relations so as to work closely on various fronts.
During today’s visit, DGP Mahanta also inspected the condition at the inter-state border outpost at Kulichhera which had seen a lot of unrest during the violence that broke out at the Assam-Mizoram border last year in June.
Speaking about the condition at the border outpost at Kulichhera, the Assam DGP said that he is not happy with the conditions and the police department is striving to improve the situation.
During the span of his three-day-long visit, DGP Mahanta also visited the areas along the Bangladesh border.
Mahanta further said here that he visited border areas in Karimganj yesterday and held meetings with the BSF. He also said here that there are long stretches of unfenced areas near the border and these issues need to be resolved at the earliest.
