The family members and kin of Captain Jintu Gogoi are remembering him on the day of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Captain Gogoi was one of the heroes of the Kargil Diwas and was martyred while fighting off the intruders during combat operations. Captain Jintu Gogoi was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra.

Today Captain Gogoi’s family and friends are remembering him and his valor at his native village in Khumtai in Assam’s Golaghat district.

India is observing Kargil Vijay Diwas today, remembering the valor and sacrifice of the brave hearts of the 1999 Kargil war. The war fought at high altitudes, showcased the gallantry of the Indian Army.

The nation is today paying homage to the heroes of the Kargil war and remembering their heroism and sacrifices for maintaining the sovereignty and sanctity of India.

The Kargil war was a result of Pakistani forces occupying positions in the Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999. Needless to say, the Indian Army was determined to gain back control of the occupied area and as history as its witness, they did.

At least 500 jawans were martyred in the war. And, among them was Assam’s braveheart Captain Jintu Gogoi of Khumtai in Golaghat. The district administration, as such, is also observing Kargil Divas remembering Captain Gogoi and the other martyred jawans.

Meanwhile, programs to commemorate the day have begun. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh is already at the Martyrs Memorial in New Delhi to pay homage to the fallen heroes of the Kargil War. The program has already begun and is seeing participation by military bands on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be paying tribute to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate. There is a Kargil War memorial in Dras as well, on the foothills of Tololing Hill.
