Manipur: 2 KNA cadres arrested for extortion

The KNA cadres threatened the shopkeepers claiming they were sent to collect money by their NRFM Leaders who had recently killed a non-local shopkeeper
Two Cadres of the Kuki National Army were arrested from Manipur’s Churachandpur on Monday after an FIR was registered against them for extortion and threats to as many as 5 non-local shopkeepers.
Posing as cadres of the National Revolutionary Front, Manipur, the miscreants had been demanding money from the 5 non-local shops at Lailam Veng and Nute Bazar in Churachandpur. The duo had already collected some amount from two shops the previous week.
Reportedly, the KNA cadres threatened the shopkeepers claiming they were sent to collect money by their NRFM Leaders who had recently killed a non-local shopkeeper, Anand Gupta.
After a thorough analysis of CCTV footage collected from the area and surveillance in the suspected areas, the miscreants were arrested, they have been identified as Paolalmon Singson and Letthang Haokip.
On preliminary examination, they stated that they were KNA (I) members but not NRFM members and they just used the NRFM name to intimidate the non-local Shopkeepers. The duo will be produced before the Court for further remand and investigation.
