In a noble initiative, Sikkim Education Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha, has decided to sponsor the accidental insurance of taxi drivers in his constituency, Shyari.
The Minister flagged off the noble initiative during the All Taxi Drivers’ Meet in Shyari. The meet was attended by Chandmari Councilor Chungkila Lepcha, Panchayats and office-bearers of Constituency Level Committee for Shyari and Chalak Morcha of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party along with office-bearers and members of various local taxi drivers’ associations under Shyari constituency.
The insurance will cover 250 drivers including light and heavy vehicles under the constituency. Rewaj Gurung from SBI General Insurance informed that the insurance gives coverage of Rs 10 and Rs 20 lakhs as well as covers permanent disability.
The Insurance will also provide expenses for funeral and child education. During his address, the Minister acknowledged the role of drivers in bringing change to the State.
He also urged the drivers to spread the various pro-people schemes and programs of the State government to the people of Sikkim.
