Tripura Anganwadi workers clamour for gratuity

Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and helpers took to the streets of Agartala, demanding immediate implementation of the Supreme Court order which entitles Anganwadi workers and helpers, to pay gratuity.

The protestors under the banner of Anganwari Karmi Sangathan demanded that as per the Supreme Court order on April 26, 2022, Anganwadi workers and helpers should be recognized as regular employees. Besides, the government should provide gratuity and increase their retirement age from 60 to 65 years.

The rally went through the streets of Agartala and later a delegation of Anganwadi representatives met with the CDPO, and urban ICDS project at Badharghat and submitted a memorandum urging the government to fulfill their demands at the earliest.

It needs to be mentioned here that, the Supreme Court in its order held that Anganwadi workers and helpers taking care of the nutrition needs of around 158 million children who were considered the “future resource of the country”, were entitled to gratuity, a basic social security measure.
