Assam has recorded the highest number of deaths due to floods and landslides this year. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed this and said that 195 individuals have lost their lives out of which 19 were landslide-related deaths.

Meanwhile, 37 persons still remain to be missing. Chief Minister Sarma said that the government after a certain period of time will take a call on whether the missing individuals should be declared deceased or not.

Chief Minister Sarma said that a record number of sorties by the Air Force were carried out in the worst-hit Barak valley for airdropping relief materials.

The flood situation in Assam improved substantially, although over 2.10 lakh people are still suffering across four districts of the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated in its daily report.

The report said that as many as 2,10,746 people are still suffering due to the deluge in Cachar, Chirang, Morigaon, and Tamulpur districts.

With the floodwaters claiming one more life in Cachar’s Silchar, the death toll mounted to 194 on Friday. At present, 799 villages are affected across 13 districts, while 875.46 hectares of crop areas remain submerged in Karimganj and Morigaon districts, the ASDMA report added.

The report states that a total of 45 relief camps are functioning in four districts, where 10,300 people, including 2,328 children, have been taking refuge.
