Illegal Appointments: Assam Govt suspends over 2,000 ASTC employees

Reportedly, the employees had secured an appointment to the various posts in the ASTC through various means.
In a major move against corruption, the state government has decided to suspend a total of 2,274 employees of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC).
The employees are being suspended for allegedly securing appointments through illegal means.
Reportedly, the employees had secured an appointment to the various posts in the ASTC through various means. The state government has ordered all such employees within a period of 60 days.
Most of these employees secured their jobs illegally in Tinsukia, Nagaon, Silchar, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Guwahati area, and the ISBT in Guwahati.
The illegal appointments within the ASTC had been taking place over the last two years.
Noteworthy here is that this move comes in after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sat in a review meeting with ASTC director Rahul Das on July 27.
After the illegal appointments came to light during the meet, the government has now cracked the whip against all the illegal appointments within the ASTC.
