The Naga Mothers Association has extended their appreciation to the Government of Nagaland for implementing the 74th Amendment taken at the state consultation on March 9 and to hold the urban local body elections with 33% women reservation in Nagaland.

In a release, the NMA has extended their gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, UDA Chairman TR Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, leaders of tribe organizations, Gaon Buras, civil societies and political parties and hopes that the long-overdue municipal polls will be held peacefully to ensure development of the towns and municipals.

NMA also announced that since they had already withdrawn the petition in 2017, after the written agreement by the State government to hold the Municipal polls, NMA said they are no longer the petitioners in the ongoing case.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties, India’s largest human rights organizations has been impleaded as the petitioner. NMA also expressed gratitude to PUCL for their legal intervention for Naga women’s constitutional rights.
