What comes as a big respite for Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine’s Sumy, Russia has now opened two routes for the students stranded in the region. The development follows Russia’s declaration of a ceasefire in Ukraine for a brief period today. The humanitarian corridors have been opened from 12:30 pm Indian Standard Time.
While Route 1 starts from Sumy and ends at Belgorod via Suzdha, Route 2 starts from Sumi and covers Golu-bov-ka, Romny, Lokh-vista and Lubny.
It may be mentioned that close to 700 Indian students are said to be stranded in Sumy of which around 40 are from Assam.
The Russian military will hold fire and open humanitarian corridors in several Ukrainian cities that include Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv, and Sumy to open humanitarian corridors to allow for the evacuation of civilians.
The move comes on the personal request of the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in view of the current situation in those cities.
