Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that he will deliberate with the Centre about initiating peace talks with the outlawed HNLC during his upcoming Delhi visit. However, the Meghalaya Chief Minister maintained that the border issue will be the key focus during his visit to the national capital. Earlier, Chief Minister Sangma informed that he had received an invitation from the Centre to discuss the border issue on March 9.

It is to be mentioned that the proscribed outfit HNLC had sent a written communique to the Meghalaya government expressing its willingness to come to the talks table.

Talks between the two parties had almost stalled after the alleged encounter of HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thankiew in the middle of the last year leading to widespread protests and condemnation.

Following which, HNLC executed a series of IED blasts intermittently in and around Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong.
