Many more students from Assam are stranded in war torn Ukraine. Most of the students are hiding in bunkers in cities like Kyiv, which are under heavy seige by Russian troops. Some Assamese students stranded in Ukraine have shared videos on social media appealing to be rescued by the Indian government. Here is one such video shared by Pinakiranjan, who hails from Assam’s Nagaon.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Shipping & Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal stated on social media that he held a discussion with Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar regarding the situation of students and citizens from Assam and northeastern states stranded in Ukraine.

Sonowal said that the Centre is taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine.
The Government of Meghalaya has set up a helpline for students as well as people from Meghalaya stranded in Ukraine. In a tweet, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma shared two helpline numbers: +91 93660 66565 and +91 98632 57261. The Chief Minister has also requested netizens to share the numbers.
