In a bid to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh, the first-ever Bangladesh Film Festival was inaugurated at Hotel Taj Vivanta in Guwahati on Thursday.

The festival also coincides with the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the independence of the neighbouring country.

The festival, which will continue through the first half of March, beginning from Friday at different venues in Guwahati, is being organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bangladesh, in association with the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh, Guwahati.

Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function, while Assam Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya was the Guest of Honour.

Pride East Entertainment Private Limited Chief Managing Director Riniki Bhuyan Sarma along with other dignitaries was also present on the occasion.
