The comment from the CM comes days after the HNLC had written to the Government expressing its desire to engage in peace talks.

It may be mentioned that the outlawed outfit HNLC which has been operating in Meghalaya has expressed its willingness to come to the mainstream and its readiness to talk with the Government of India without any pre-condition and has decided to give peace a chance once again in the state.

This indeed is a crucial development after the peace process derailed following the alleged fake encounter of HNLC general secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was assigned to carry forward the talks with the Government of India.

The new peace proposal by HNLC is welcomed by Meghalaya BJP chief Ernest Mawrie and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum.
