Sikkim CM writes letter to External Affairs Ministry

Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling today said that he has written a letter to the External Affairs ministry seeking permission for the 17th Karmapa Ogygen Trinley Dorje’s visit to Sikkim.

Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling today said that he has written a letter to the External Affairs ministry seeking permission for the 17th Karmapa Ogygen Trinley Dorje’s visit to Sikkim. He further added that the 17th Karmapa’s visit to the state would fulfill the long pending demand of the Sikkimese people and the government.

Meanwhile, Chamling has been trying to impress the Centre to allow the 17th Karmapa to visit Sikkim to grace his rightful position as the head of Rumtek monastery and a couple of monasteries in other parts of the Himalayan State.

The 17th Karmapa is the head of the 900 year old Karma Kagyu lineage `who made a dramatic escape from Tibet in 2010 and resides in a temporary home at Gyuto monastery in India.
