Meghalaya Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh today said that there are too many indicators that illegal mining and transportation of coal is going on in the state.

Lyngdoh said that the judicial inquiry committee, which was set up by the state government to probe the allegations of illegal coal mining, should have submitted its preliminary report by now, and that there are too many indicators that suggest that the allegations are indeed true.

Reacting to a statement by the UDP, which is a coalition partner of the ruling MDA government, that an independent inquiry committee should probe the allegations, Ampareen Lyngdoh accused the UDP of not being consistent in its stand as far as the illegal coal mining issue is concerned.
