Heavy rainfall & hailstorm claims lives of over 200 heron birds in Assam’s Nagaon

In a tragic incident, over 200 heron birds died due to heavy rainfall and hailstorm on Saturday at Berhampur in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Besides, many heron birds reportedly sustained injuries due to hailstorms that occurred yesterday.

These heron birds were seeking shelter in a water body over the past several years that belongs to a person named Putul Bora, a resident of Shantivan area.

Meanwhile, locals are providing treatment and rehabilitation to the injured birds.

It may be mentioned that the Guwahati and other parts of Assam faced a sudden hailstorm yesterday afternoon. The hailstorm damaged crops and homes in many parts of Assam.

Meanwhile, the mercury plunged further across the region leading to even colder conditions due to the incessant rains.

It may be mentioned that the Regional Meteorological Centre located in Borjhar in Guwahati predicted light to medium rainfall across Assam and Meghalaya on February 4 and 5.

Apart from Assam, other Northeastern states are also expected to receive rainfall in the upcoming days. The low-pressure region developed over the Bay of Bengal has created such overcast conditions.
