Carrying on its war against drugs, Assam Police has had major success after it seized contraband worth Rs 5 crores. Police seized 660 grams of heroin during a check right in front of the CRPF camp at Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district.

The drugs had been hidden inside 51 soap cases in a vehicle.
Police have arrested two drug peddlers identified as Askhu and Shila who hail from Dimapur in Nagaland.

Police sources have revealed that the two arrested drug peddlers may be linked to notorious drug lord Baba Hazarika, hinting at a bigger network involved in the area.

Further investigation on the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, Karimganj police yesterday evening seized whopping 38,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup destined for the international narcotics trade.

The drugs, market value to be worth at least Rs 2 crores, were carefully hidden underneath stacks of cement bags.
