The NPP has released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Manipur assembly elections. The NPP’s second list includes names of 13 candidates. Significantly, the list includes names of at least two BJP leaders who were denied party tickets. The BJP leaders who defected the party and are contesting on NPP tickets include Z Kikhonbou Newmai, who is contesting from the Tamei assembly constitutency and Khaipao Haokip from Saikot.
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister and NPP National Vice President Y Joykumar, informed Northeast Live that NPP National President Conrad Sangma will be arriving in Imphal on February 3 to discuss and finalise the third list of the party. He further highlighted that the NPP has made all efforts to ensure representation of all sections through its candidates.
Meanwhile, the JDU has announced the list of 30 candidates for the ensuing polls in Manipur. The list includes former Congress MLA of Lamlai K Biren Singh, who tendered his resignation from the Manipur Legislative Assembly today, Khumukcham Joykishan, the former Congress MLA of Thangmeiband, Asab Uddin from Jiribam constituency, former Manipur DGP LM Khaute from Churachandpur and super cop Brinda Thounaojam from Yaiskul.
