Chairman of Assam State Linguistic Minority Board and former BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev today met Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik Dev on the recent instances of violence against the minorities in Shillong.

Former Meghalaya Health Minister and BJP MLA AL Hek also accompanied Dev in the meet with the Governor.

Prior to this, Dev had met with several prominent Khasi leaders and local groups regarding the recent violent incidents.

Talking on the meet with the Governor, Dev termed it fruitful while saying that Governor Malik has promised to take up the matter with the Chief Minister and also at the level of the Union Home Ministry.

Dev interacted with local leaders, members of the Civil Society groups, human rights activists and citizens in Shillong to take stock of the situation. He called upon the Meghalaya government to take stringent action against the perpetrators of crime against linguistic minorities in the state.

Talking to media persons, Dev said that he decided to visit Shillong to meet the linguistic minority groups in the wake of reports of recent incidents of violence.
Dev also requested the state government and all legislators and leaders to speak out against such acts of violence.

The vocal leader added that such incidents cannot be communalised and that it’s a fight between anti-social elements and law-abiding citizens. Dev added that criminals should not be protected under linguistic or communal lines.

Dev also thanked BJP MLA AL Hek for speaking up on the matter. Dev added that he also met Khasi intellectuals and human rights activists to highlight the matter.
