The recent incidents of violence in Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong have raised fresh concerns over the law and order situation in the city.

Reacting to the developments, United Democratic Party general secretary Jemino Mawthoh condemned the attacks on non-tribals terming them as unfortunate. Mawthoh, however, maintained that the issue must not be given a communal colour.

Meanwhile, in a significant statement, the UDP general secretary backed TMC leader Mukul Sangma over the latter’s allegations about the state government adopting delay tactics to check incidents of corruption.

UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh also said that the Government must speed up all the pending enquiries of alleged irregularities that have been constituted.

The UDP which is also a constituent of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance, will raise these issues within the coalition and press for a solution, Mawthoh added.
