The Border Security Force has stepped up efforts to prevent and foil any attempt to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations in Tripura. The BSF is maintaining an extra vigil as day-night security has been beefed up across the state’s 856 km border with Bangladesh.

The BSF has intensified checking and a dog squad has been called in. Apart from that, public and vehicle checking is going on as patrolling on the border has also been increased and the international border has been sealed.

Unlike previous years, there is no specific report of any militant activity trying to disturb the Republic Day celebrations, but security forces and other agencies are making sure that there are no lapses in security arrangements.

The Indo-Bangla border has been a hotbed for smuggling and illegal activity for quite some time. Insurgent outfits operating in Tripura & utllising Bangladeshi territory as shelter use the apparently porous border sneak in and out.
