In a bid to intensify anti-poaching operations, Commando Force will be deployed at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

This was informed by Special Director General of Police and Chairman of Assam Rhino Protection Task Force GP Singh.

Worth mentioning here, a carcass of an adult female rhino, suspected to be killed by poachers with its horn missing, was found inside the national park on January 20.

The rhino was killed near the forest camp at Silekhunda in the Kohora range of the national park.

Notably, this was the first instance of rhino killing in the Kaziranga National Park this year.

The forest department has initiated an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Special DGP GP Singh on Sunday visited the recent rhino poaching site and reviewed the ongoing anti-poaching operation in the park.

Last year, the Assam government formed the Anti-Poaching Task Force to curb rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

It is to be noted that instances of rhino killings have gone down drastically in the previous year, with a report of only one rhino being killed by poachers.
