Former India footballer Subhas Bhowmick, and one of the country’s most well-known instructors, died today in Kolkata. He was 72 years old at the time.

Bhowmick, who led East Bengal to the Asean Cup title in 2003, has been receiving treatment for the past few days at a private facility in Kolkata. He was suffering from kidney problems as well as chest issues. Bhowmick, a diabetic, had undergone coronary bypass surgery 23 years before.

Bhowmick was a striker who represented India in various international games and played for East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

Meanwhile, SC East Bengal has expressed its condolences on the passing of its former coach and idol.

Bhowmick led East Bengal to consecutive National League titles throughout his lengthy and distinguished coaching career, and he repeated the feat as Churchill Brothers’ Technical Director. He had previously coached Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting, and Salgaocar.
