The Assam government has released the new Covid SOPs for conducting Republic Day celebrations. Keeping in mind the Covid scenario in the state, the authorities have issued certain guidelines to ensure Republic Day celebrations are observed in a contained manner.
While pertaining to the official functions to be hosted by various departments and authorities across the state, the SOP states that all Republic Day programmes will be limited to National Flag hoisting, speech by the guest of honour and ceremonial parade only.
Other programmes, such as cultural programmes and the distribution of awards and prizes, are to be avoided.

The gathering at the Republic Day programmes has been limited to a maximum of 1000 people for state-level functions in the Kamrup Metropolitan district, 500 people for district level functions, and 200 for any other level.
In view of the prevailing COVID situation in the state, all pre and post Republic Day programmes may be avoided. It has also been stated that schoolchildren will not be allowed to participate in ceremonial parades or march past.
Only fully vaccinated, trained police, security, and home-guards will be permitted to march in the ceremonial parade and march past.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing in different parts of Assam for the holding of official Republic Day functions. Preparations are on in Gohpur, where practise march past sessions are being held between the police and NCC cadets.
