Despite the absence of captain Yash Dhull and four other players due to Covid-19, India on Wednesday defeated Ireland to reach the Super League quarterfinals of the U19 Cricket World Cup.

India defeated Ireland by 174 runs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, giving them their second win in Group B.

Openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi (79) and Harnoor Singh put on a solid start to their innings, scoring 164 runs together.

Himachal Pradesh batter Raj Bawa (42), Rajvardhan Hangargekar (39*) and stand-in skipper Nishant Sandhu (36), all contributed significantly to the team’s total.

India U19 scored 307 for five in the first innings before their bowlers skittled the opposition to 133 in 39 overs.

It may be mentioned that After skipper Yash Dhull and vice-captain, SK Rasheed tested positive for Covid-19 and are under isolation period along with other four players– Aaradhya Yadav, Manav Parakh, Siddharth Yadav, and Vasu Vats.

After six players were sidelined in the camp, India was reduced to 11 players.

In their first game of the tournament in Guyana, India’s U19 team defeated South Africa’s U19 team by 45 runs. Skipper Yash Dhull led from the front with a valiant knock of 82 from 100 balls.

The Indian colts will face the Uganda U19 team in their final Group B match on January 22 at the same venue where they thrashed Ireland.
