After grave security lapses in PM’s security in Congress-ruled Punjab, Chief Ministers of Assam and Tripura along with senior party leaders joined the rest of the country to pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long life. In Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma offered prayers at the Ugrotara temple of Guwahati. Sarma also condemned the shocking security breach in Punjab. He was joined by BJP’s Assam Chief Bhabesh Kalita.
Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb offered prayers at the Meher Kalibari temple for Prime Minister Modi’s wellbeing.
He also took part in a torch rally organised by BJP Yuba Morcha in Agartala to protest the security breach in Punjab during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.
The controversy over security lapses surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab reached the Supreme Court, with the matter likely to be heard today.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Prime Minister was scheduled to address a rally at Ferozepur in Punjab and lay the foundation stones of development projects worth over Rs 42,000 crores. After landing at Bathinda, the Prime Minister was scheduled to fly to the rally in Ferozepur by helicopter, the plan changed because of bad weather. Then it was decided to travel 100km by car, which should have taken two hours but the cavalcade was stopped 10 km from the venue of the rally.
What came out as a security breach was that Prime Minister Modi’s cavalcade was stuck on a flyover for nearly 20 minutes due to protestors blocking the flyover. Private cars were also seen approaching the cavalcade, which emerged as a major security lapse to which the BJP has alleged that the Punjab government failed to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate lapses during Prime Minister Modi’s visit which is yet to submit its report.
