The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has extended its unconditional support to the agitating GVK-EMRI employees who are on a cease work strike. Briefing newspersons, HNYF president Sadon Blah citing reports alleged that about Rs 50 crore has been siphoned off in the past 10 years since the GVK-EMRI began its services in the state. Blah alleged that the amount was siphoned off as the agency in service had an understanding with the government.

According to HNYF president Sadon Blah, the Government must not outsource the services to contractors from outside but rather devise a strategy to run the emergency 108 services within the state by the Directorate of Health Services. Blah further said that the Government must not extend the contract of the company anymore and terminate the contract after the due date of March 2021.

Meanwhile Microlina Syiemlieh, President Meghalaya EMRI workers Union said that the union had a zoom meeting with Principal health secretary Sampath Kumar on January 5th wherein she was assured that the department has taken into consideration the demands made by them.

It may be mentioned that the GVK-EMRI employees who are the backbone of 108 ambulance services had started their protest ceasing all services across the state from January 5th midnight. The employees are demanding an increase in their salaries as well as delinking them from GVK and regularisation of their services.
