An Assam Rifles’ jawan has been martyred and another one critically injured in a suspected IED blast at Thoubal district in Manipur. The Assam Rifles’ troopers were patrolling the Lilong Ushoipokpi area when the IED exploded.

The deceased Jawan has been identified has Longdon Wangsu of Longding, Arunachal Pradesh while the injured Jawan is Pinku Das of Tripura.

The blast took place at around 1:30 pm. As per latest reports the injured jawan has been taken to Noor Hospital for treatment.

Till now no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Assam Rifles had suffered a massive casualty in November last year when  Manipur-based People Liberation Army (PLA) & Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF)  had jointly executed an Ambush killing an Assam Rifles Colonel, his wife, child, and four other personnel. NIA is conducting a probe into the blasts.

It is to be mentioned that a number of explosions have taken place recently in poll-bound Manipur. It was only yesterday that PM Narendra Modi had visited Imphal which is hardly fifteen kilometers from the area where the IED explosion has taken place today
