Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s steps to scale down certain paraphernalia associated with his office and VIPs at large are being praised by members of the ruling BJP and opposition alike.
Mrinal Saikia, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Khumtai applauded CM Sarma’s decisions to reduce traditional markers of ‘VIP Culture’.
He called CM Sarma as people’s CM who always tried to stay with the people.
In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has scaled down the number of vehicles in his convoy from 20 to 7. In this regard, Chief Minister has reportedly advised his council of ministers to use a single vehicle when accompanying his entourage.
As per the arrangement, the ministers can also travel separately with their own convoy.

This decision, which comes to effect from Monday, was taken in the latest cabinet meeting held on January 1, 2022.
Additionally, the Chief Minister also directed to cut down frills of former Chief Ministers.
Simply put, this directive will apply for Chief Minister Sarma and other future Chief Ministers wherein they will not be entitled to any government privileges such as accommodation or PSOs.
However, a core security review committee will decide on the deployment of personal security officers or PSOs except for constitutional posts including ministers, chief secretary, additional chief secretary, deputy commissioner, and high court judges.
