On the occasion of New year eve celebrations, the administration has announced relaxations in night curfew in Guwahati.

Hotels, bars, and restaurants in Guwahati can remain open till midnight for New Year revellers with prior permission from the authorities. This was informed by the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration on Thursday.

A task force has been formed for December 31 to keep a check on drunk driving and other violations.

Additionally there will be no travel restrictions with the night curfew lifted for December 31 night.

People have been urged to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that Guwahati has a safe and accident-free celebration on New Year’s eve.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government has also decided to lift night curfew in Shillong for December 31 night to allow denizens to attend New Year’s eve festivities.

It is to be mentioned that New Year related events/ gatherings, permission should be sought from the respective Deputy Commissioners as per the existing guidelines issued by the Home (Political) Department, Meghalaya.

However, those above 65 years of age, with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children have been asked to stay at home. However the ones who have taken both doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 may attend the celebrations.

In the interest of safety, the district administration has asked all participants actively involved in the New Year celebrations should have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
