Former footballer and leader of Hamaro Sikkim Party Baichung Bhutia has welcomed Sikkim government’s willingness to bring CBI in and investigate the charges of corruption against the previous governments. He however asked CM Golay to extend the scope of the CBI inquiry into the deals made during the tenure of the present government as well.
In a statement to the press, Bhutia called the new development ‘heartening’ and hoped that Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamag-Golay keeps his promise. “I hope this time he does keep his word and not be like any other promises he has made in the past,” he said.
“We would like the SKM Govt to let CBI investigate everything from the last Government’s scams to all the scams that are happening during the tenure of the present Government as well. Scams related to Smart TV given to students, Su Swastha Yojna Scheme, all the kickbacks from the construction of hospitals to new Universities, and all PPP models given to private companies,” the statement read.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamag Golay on December 18 had announced that the state government will initiate a CBI investigation into the charges of corruption levied against the previous governments.
