Aizawl DC office fire: Strong room intact, ballots, EVMs safe

The fire that razed parts of the Aizawl DC office has been contained fully. As per inputs out of the six buildings, the four made of wood have been worse hit. The two concrete ones that housed the strong room with EVM’s, postal ballots of the by-elections of the Aizawl Municipal council is said to be safe.

An Enquiry committee chaired by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte has been set up to look into the matter. The DC has also issued a notification announcing the closing of the office for Christmas and New Year.

In the meantime, the government has announced that the DC office will be temporarily shifted to MLA Hostel in Aizawl. 

Reportedly the fire broke out early morning around 4 pm when those guarding the strong room lit a bonfire to keep themselves warm.
