Assam-Meghalaya Border Issue: CM of both states arrive at Langpih

As part of the continuous effort of Assam and Meghalaya to resolve the border issue amicably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma arrived
As part of the continuous effort of Assam and Meghalaya to resolve the border issue amicably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma arrived at Lower Langpih area in Kamrup district on the Assam-Meghalaya border.
The Lower Langpih is one of the disputed areas along the inter-state boundary.
The Chief Ministers of both the states will also interact with the locals of the area.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the Chief Ministers are hopeful for a favourable outcome because they have been trying to resolve the long-pending border issue.
Taking to Twitter Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma said that the Chief Ministers are hopeful for a positive result as they have been working towards resolving our long-pending border issue.
“Hon’ble CM of Assam @himantabiswa Ji & I are on our way to conduct a joint inspection of Langpih, one of the villages along the Meghalaya-Assam border. We look forward to a fruitful day of dialogue as we work towards resolving our long-pending border issue @narendramodi @AmitShah,” CM Sangma tweeted.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to twitter and wrote, “Along with Hon CM of Meghalaya Sri @SangmaConrad we shall be conducting a joint inspection of Langpih, one of the villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border. We’re resolute in our commitment to amicably resolve the border issue.@narendramodi @AmitShah,”

The joint visit has been planned as a confidence-building measure.
Later, a joint press briefing will also be convened by both the Chief Ministers at State Guest House at Koinadhora at around 1.30 pm today.
Worth mentioning here that, the six areas of differences between Assam Meghalaya are Tarabari, Gizang, Langpih, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pilangkata and Ratacherra.
Notably, members of the Meghalaya regional committee under Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong and Assam regional committee headed by cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika last month visited areas including Khanapara, Barapathar, Iongkhuli and Maikhuli.
During the visit, the committees spoke to the local residents of both the states to seek their opinions.
