The first meeting of the select committee formed by the Nagaland assembly to look into the border row with Assam was held on Tuesday. The ten member committee constituted by the state legislative assembly during the monsoon session met at the assembly secretariat under the convenorship of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang also attended the meeting as co-convenors. The first meeting saw the committee members explore various issues and facets with relations to the inter-state border dispute.

Notably, the state government has assigned the department of border affairs to frame the modalities on amicably settling the border row.

Later while talking to the media, Nagaland border affairs minister Mhanthung Yanthan said that they have made a start in resolving the border row with Assam, and now the border affairs department will work out the modalities of settling the issue.

It is to be noted that during last month’s state assembly session, a select committee of the state legislative assembly was formed to examine the border row with Assam and submit a report within a span of three months.
