Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday said that the state government had sent several letters to the Ministry of Home Affairs to instruct the Assam government to lift the order to thoroughly check all vehicles from Mizoram inside Assam on the pretext of a “anti-drug campaign.”
Reacting to the issue raised in the state Assembly during zero hour by Congress legislature party leader Zodintluanga Ralte, the chief minister had said that the Assam government had on July 29 issued a travel advisory to the people of Assam cautioning them against going to Mizoram as the state was ‘not safe.’
He added that Assam had issued another advisory on July 30 alleging that a high amount of drugs and narcotics were trafficked to Assam from Mizoram and all the vehicles originating from Mizoram should be allowed to enter Assam only after a through checking.
The Mizoram chief minister has now alleged that even though the Assam government has withdrew the travel advisory, it did not withdraw the order for checking vehicles from Mizoram, which is causing great trouble to the residents of the state.
The chief minister also added that he has written thrice to the MHA, but the neighboring state has refused to cancel the order.
