With protest and agitations gaining momentum in Meghalaya, Opposition Congress Chief Whip and Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie cautioned the State government to take a call on the suspension of the top cops for normalcy to return in the state.
Speaking to the media, Sawkmie stated that even after a month, since the killing of former HNLC leader Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, the government is yet to take a prompt action.
Sawkmie added that the government’s indecision will only prolong the agitations, and the government has to make amends and comply with the demands of the people. Sawkmie added people have begun to lose patience and the Voice of people of Mawlai has garnered the support of other Khasi-Jaintia hills groups across the state.
The Opposition leader also added that the killing of Thangkhiew will be a top issue in the upcoming Assembly session and it will better for the government if the CM suspends the top police officials before the Assembly session.
