Assam’s Education Department approves transfer of more than 10, 500 teachers

In a first ever move by the Assam state government, the Education Department has approved for the transfer of 10, 544 teachers. State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who made the announcement, also introduced a yearly system of transferring teachers within the state.

Sarma also added that the transfer would be carried out taking into consideration, mutual consent between teachers. A total of 10, 795 teachers had applied for transfer.

In this regard, a list of total including names of 8, 550 teachers will be uploaded online at first.

Of this, 4, 646 teachers would be transferred outside their respective districts, whereas 3, 904 teachers would be transferred within their districts. This includes both regular and contractual teachers. The entire process of transfer would be completed within 30 days.

The system will be followed and implemented on a new computerised model. A separate system is to be implemented for teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan whereby schools with excess teachers will be able to transer their teaching staff to schools with lesser teaching staff.

This would imply only for the regular and contractual teachers of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and not for the teachers outside of its purview.

A total of 17,150 schools in the state have excess teachers while 22,336 schools hav less teachers, the education minister added.
