In spite of the growing demand for suspension of two police officials involved in the killing of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, a conglomeration of 11 organisations from Mawlai under the banner of ‘Ka Sur ki Nong Mawlai’ (the Voice of Mawlai people) have come out to intensify its agitation by organizing a signature campaign on Friday.
Following burning of effigies on Wednesday, the members of the voice of Mawlai have organise a signature campaign to mount pressure on the state government to accede to their demand.
The family members of former HNLC general secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew also took part in the signature campaign. The slain former HNLC leader’s younger brother was among the first to put his signature in the flex of the signature campaign.
Speaking to mediapersons, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew’s son Pher Diengdoh appealed for peace and demanded immediate suspension of the two senior police officials.
On the other hand, members of the Voice of Mawlai as well threatened to intensify their agitations if the government remains indifferent to their demands.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government stands firm on their decision to wait for the report of judicial probe set up recently even as pressure groups threatened to intensify agitations in the state government remains mum on the matter.
Reacting to a query on the growing demand by Ka Sur ki Nong Mawlai to remove the SP’s, CM Conrad Sangma said that the state government would wait for the final report of the Judicial probe.
Sangma said that the independent probe has been set up to find facts and details and it would not be appropriate to not give a fair chance for the enquiry to take place. Proper action will be taken only after the findings of the report, he maintained.
