Two dreaded criminals were shot at by cops in Assam after they tried to escape from police custody. The first incident has been reported from Bijni in Chirang district where a murder accused was shot at by Assam Police personnel.

The accused was seriously injured in the shootout following which he succumbed to injuries while on the way to hospital.

The deceased identified as Abdul Khalek was accused in the murder of Home Guard Yaad Ali who was found dead on Tuesday. Soon after this police had swung into action and arrested Abdul Khalek. However, the accused tried to flee from police custody.

Meanwhile, 2 others accused identified as Safiur Rahman and Ayub Ali have been arrested by the police in connection with the case. According to the police, the accused had hired serial killers to murder Yaad Ali.

In another incident reported from Dibrugarh in Eastern Assam, a dreaded cattle smuggler identified as Tikro Khan alias Akhtar Raja Khan was injured in police firing. The incident took place after Khan tried to escape from police custody after being arrested by police last night.

Acting on specific inputs, a team of Dibrugarh police conducted raids at the Paanch Aali area and seized 95 cattle-heads supposed to be smuggled to a different place.

Three persons identified as AKhtar Raja Khan, Mohammad Anwarul Haque and Anish Rahman have been arrested in connection with the case. Further probe into the matter is underway.
