Assam Health Minister Keshav Mahanta paid a surprise visit to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) late on Monday night. The state health minister visited the GMCH premise at around 1 am and inspected the functioning of the hospital.
The visit came in the wake of the rise in the Covid related deaths in the hospital. Assam reported a total of 42 Covid related deaths in the last 24 hours, of which a total of 12 patients have died at the GMCH.
Mahanta visited the hospital and inspected as to why many Covid related deaths are happening at the GMCH. The Health Minsiter took stock of the ground situation and also examined the duty list of doctors in this regard.
Reportedly, it was found that in spite of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directives, senior doctors are still not present at the hospital premises during the late night hours.
