Manipur police on Thursday arrested 16 persons, including 3 juveniles, who are members of a social media group involved in uploading and sharing of obscene and derogatory content.

Earlier, various rights bodies, including Manipur State Commission for Women, had lodged complaints against the Facebook group ‘Kanglei emagi….’ for sharing and uploading posts of women without their consent or knowledge. Since then, police have been on the manhunt for the administrator of the group.

Two separate complaints were made against the members of the social media group. The Imphal police station and Cyber Crime Police Station each registered an FIR on June 12 after receiving reports that the members of the group were involved in sharing of photos and videos of women and posting derogatory comments.

Moreover, the Manipur State Women Commission has also lodged a complaint against the group. The SP further informed that more individuals involved in the case will be arrested.
