Meghalaya Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Friday informed that the state government has constituted a consultative committee to discuss the exorbitant Covid fees levied by private hospitals.
The committee will be headed by the Directorate of Health Services (Medical Institutions).
The decision comes after complaints were received from the public against private hospitals for charging unreasonably high fees for Covid treatment.
“The government will notify a small consultative committee to discuss the exorbitant fees charged by private hospitals which has been a matter of concern for the patients,” Hek said.
The DHS (MI) had earlier called the respective authorities of private hospitals in the state for talks on the same matter.
Speaking about the COVID-19 situation in the northeastern state, Hek informed that the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of different districts have been entrusted with the task of containment strategies, and that the containment measures and restrictions will continue till June 21.
As for the vaccination drive being conducted in the state, the health minister reiterated that vaccines cannot be forced on anyone, but the government urges everyone to get the vaccines given the seriousness of the pandemic situation.
